Asbestos Physical Exams

Asbestos physical exam requirements under OSHA Medical Surveillance Guidelines include a comprehensive medical and work history, a physical examination focusing on the respiratory system, and a pulmonary function test. These evaluations are mandatory for workers exposed to airborne asbestos at or above the permissible exposure limit.

  • Medical history: A detailed review of past health issues and job history.

  • Respirator questionnaire: Completion of the standard OSHA Respirator Medical Questionnaire.

  • Physical exam: A complete physical check with an emphasis on the lungs and breathing.

  • Pulmonary function test (PFT): Breathing tests to measure lung capacity and function.

  • Chest X-ray: Evaluates lung tissue, often read by a certified B-reader.
